Inspired from Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher’s Hollywood film What happens in Vegas, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is slated for release today. The story revolves on a 20-something young couple who get drunk in Las Vegas and by the time they come to their senses they realise that they are married.
Debutant director Shakun Batra is confident that the film would appeal the urban youth because it is peppy, interesting and the characters are portrayed as such with whom they can identify themselves with if not the plot. Batra also clearly clarifies that the movie has not been copied or inspired from any film, it is a purely original script.
The story of the film is about Rahul Kapoor (Imran Khan), who has just lost his job and Riana Braganza (Kareena Kapoor), a hair stylist. Shot in Vegas, the film is colourful, interesting and fast paced. When the two realise the blunder of marriage they go about to annul it and what follows is the building up of a rare friendship between the two. Initially, the film was to be called Short Term Shaadi. But the name did not appeal either to Batra or co-producer of the movie Karan Johar. So the film got the name Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu.
The film, which is already releasing on the Valentine’s Day week, has garnered significant popularity with its peppy music by Amit Trivedi. The director is confident that the movie would appeal to the masses because it shows the development of a love story and not exactly a cliché tale of love. Even though there have been media reports stating that the leading lady of the film is looking at times older to Imran the hero, the director defends his stance by stating that the film is after all a contemporary movie so the age difference is never a factor in this coming-of age story.
Imran had long been a friend of Batra and the director had been a fan of Kareena for long so he admitted that he could never have thought about a different cast for the film. When I conceived the film in the first place I visualised this movie with Kareena and Imran said Batra.
The audiences are looking forward to this movie and hopefully will be as much a treat for them as the first blockbuster of 2012, Agneepath.
