Kheer – Recipe

Kheer is one of the most common desserts in Indian homes and is very popular all over the country. There are various kinds of kheer prevalent in India, however I will tell you the recipe of the most common form i.e. kheer prepared with rice which is easy to cook and very good to eat.

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Basmati Rice – 1 cup
  2. Milk – 1.5 litre
  3. Sugar – 0.5 cup
  4. Cardamom – 1 teaspoon
  5. Almonds/Cashew nuts – 10
  6. Raisins as required

METHOD:

Wash the Basmati rice and soak it in water for (10-15) minutes. Take a pan and pour the milk, heat it in low flame for about 10 minutes. Then put the soaked rice into it and again start heating in a medium to low flame for 15 minutes until the rice has softened (boiled). While doing this always remember to stir the milk. Once the rice is cooked pour in the sugar into it and stir well in a low flame. Let it cook for another 5 minutes by which the milk will also thicken. Then add the cardamom into it, the kheer is ready. Now transfer the kheer in a bowl and put almonds, cashew nuts and raisins as toppings.

Kheer can be served hot as well as cold.
