What a wonderful event it was. DLF IPL 5 opening ceremony was taken over to a whole new level. It featured stars of bollywood as well as American POP sensation Katy Perry. This opening event itself created a sensation among cricket fans or rather I would say IPL fans.
Superstars Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and American pop sensation Katy Perry were the highlights of this DLF IPL 2012 opening night gala event. The event was lengthy and for some people it was not up-to the mark. But overall it was a good show. These big names managed to pull a crowd of over 15,000 people in YMCA College of Physical Education, Chennai. It definitely lacked cheering of the crowd.
Amitabh Bachchan who returned to work after two abdominal surgeries started the proceedings for the evening with a beautiful poem: “If I were to be born again” written by Prasoon Joshi. In the background Shiamak Davar’s troupe tried their best to complement the poem beautifully sung by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan.
South African percussion band First Project was the best in terms of live performance. Music composer DJ Ravi Drums and Colonial Cousins also gave us the flavor of their music which was really good.
Priyanka Chopra shook her leg in some of her hit bollywood numbers and even our Bhajji (Harbbhajan Singh) got a chance to show some moves with her.
Prabhu Deva was magnificent and I must admit he only made the crowd cheer hard and loud. Probably the “CHENNAI” effect. Kareena Kapoor was looking stunning and she also performed on couple of her super hit tracks. It was followed by all the captains signing cricket spirit pledge written by MCC.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s performance was quite lengthy with remixes of all his super hit tracks of last year. His performance definitely lacked the punch.
The last but not the least, the evening was brought to an end by Katy Perry’s performance. She sang her super hit tracks like Calfornia Girls and Firework. It was a short and crisp performance and crowd definitely roared after her performance.
