Baby Afreen asks – Is it because ” I am a Girl”?

What kind of modern India are we living in where a father kills her child because he wanted a boy? Is India incapable of protecting girl child? After baby Falak, poor child baby Afreen bids goodbye to life after being brutally killed by her disgusting father. These incidents are a black mark on the face of our country and make us look at humanity with an eye of suspicion.

On Wednesday, 11 April ’12 morning 10:40 am, the unlucky innocent kid baby Afreen passed away due to a cardiac arrest. The baby was admitted to hospital in ICU after her father tried to kill her because he wanted a boy and not a girl. This is a slap on the face of humanity. I mean what kind of society are we living in where a girl is put to death bed because of ignorance and lack of education in society?

Umar Farook, Afreen’s disgusting father who reportedly burnt Afreen’s skin with his cigarette has confessed his crime and has been arrested there after. But is this enough?

Serious steps needs to be taken to curb this crime. It also exposes the hypocrisy level of men in our society. We want to get married to a girl, we want kids from them but if she gives birth to a girl we condemn them and kill them. This is pathetic. Special law should be made to protect girls in our country.

Killing a girl is like raping a woman. Both crimes should be subject to highest level of punishment so that a man thinks twice before attempting something like this. I hope our law will take strict action against Umar Farook who is a menace for society.

Apart from this, effort should be made to improve our education system in India. A 25 year old Umar can take such step because he is ignorant and less educated. Women and girls are the origin of our existence. We cannot exist without women and it’s about time we acknowledge this. India has been in news for the longest time for reasons related to killing or girls in rural areas of India yet no concrete method has been made to stop this. Proper education is the only way we can fight mass killing of this sort. The youth should come forward and promote this on social networking sites so that every Indian gets to know what is happening in our country.

I also appeal to media to take this forward instead of restricting it to a 1 day TRP game. It is just not about baby Falak or Afreen; it is about endless girl kids dying because of inadequate measures to protect them. Celebrities should come forward to support girl child so that the movement reaches every corner of the world. Farhan Akhtar has condemned this act of Umar Farook and has asked for serious punishment for the man accused here. I would request more celebrities, especially female celebrities to come forward to give more meat to this movement.

Wake up India; react to what is happening around you. Least you can do is spread the message through various channels so that some level of awareness takes place. Ignorance is no more a bliss! React and show your anger.
