Two attitudes exist today when it comes to footwear. An ideal first opinion is “the jeans and sneakers type” that weigh comfort more than fashion. But there exists a parallel universe, that opines the “no pain, no gain” POV. The first lot does not want to walk home and have to soak their feet in hot salt water, while the latter just do anything to look “hot in heels”..
Boots or galoshes do have high heels, but they are also widely used by commoners for leisure activities like hiking, riding, fishing or simply regular office wears. This marks them as being more functional than fashionable; but this might just be a myth.
Different kinds of women’s boots in style:
Doc Martens: These were traditional boots that army men wore in the olden days. Now they are in the hit list of shopaholics; not because of the looks which is not so appealing; rather because of the comfort one has after wearing them. Also known as combat boots or simply brogans, these have hard leather and have a very boyish shape. They are however unisex. Doc martens are a pair that you can boast off with comfort and style only if you know how to carry them well.
Cowboy boots: As the name suggests, these are the typical footwear that cowboys and ranchers wear in the ‘wild west’. They have a rather pointed or narrow toe design, functionally because cowboys had to hook their feet onto the saddle to sit on the animal’s back. They do not have laces, as it was considered to interfere with riding. These boots have been altered to meet the fashion end with beautiful thread work that still keep it functional but a smart purchase option.
Fashion boots: These galoshes shout fashion and hence the name. They have basically no utilitarian purpose and are highly feminine. The only styles they follow are the current style and therefore are of a wide variety. They can be worn professionally, for formal parties or just casually, when hanging out with friends. They are an essential winter wardrobe item for women.
Kinky boots: As the name sounds, these boots catch attention. They have high pencil heels and are very loud in colour and style. Their purpose is to attract boys and hence is a common trend amongst prostitutes, dominatrix and the like. They have been used as a tool for sex appeal. These boots have a high touch of spark in them and hence cannot be considered a regular buy.
Disco boots: These are a dream come true for short girls. Along with style, they also boost the self esteem of girls who otherwise feel embarrassed or rather conscious because of their height. Also known as platforms, the main features of these boots are the front wedge soles and high heels. They are unisex but are mostly seen amongst girls, as men are stereotyped not to wear heels.
Uggs: The name may sound funny, but speaks rightfully, as these are ‘ugly’ boots in fashion. They are a comfort to the wearers, and have soft synthetic soles that make them very easy to carry. As far as winters are concerns, well these boots are a must buy, because there is nothing more warm than a little pair of uggs; or should I say ‘an ugly pair of uggs!’
Mukluk: This pair is a functional boot designed to keep the feet warm, even at negative degree temperature. They refract cold breeze and the inner lining made of seal skin keeps the feet warm. To add fashion to these, the new look has rabbit fur used, that make them very cute and cozy. Essentially, they are worn by Eskimos.
Pirate boots: Needless to say where the name comes from, they are boots that extend up to the knee. Also known as OTK boots (Over the knee boots) or thigh-high boots, these have no special design apart from the only distinct feature being their length. Because of their length and well fitted, hugging nature, they are a hot shopping item. It is this feature that keeps them in fashion along with gracefully maintaining their functionality that is to keep warm. They set a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean look’
Well, fashion or no fashion; comfort or no comfort, boots make a style statement of its own and definitely reflect the wearers state of mind. They need to be well complimented with the outfit of the wearer, or else instead of a fashion statement, they would become a fashion disaster. Fashion does not always come with pain however – Women who have sensitive feet can use insoles to provide extra cushioning to the sensitive parts of their toes that are fractioned against high heels. This will reduce , somewhat, the fashion-comfort conflict.
A healthy tip however for any and every shoe genre is to keep them in well maintained shape. Not just your clothes need dry cleaning, even your footwear demands so. Use a soft sponge to clean them both inside and out to not only keep them in their best colour but also to avoid any foot sickness like odour and corns or calluses. Keeping them clean, speaks of your style more than simply buying an expensive brand and subconsciously showing off that smashed bug stuck at your heel! [Article View] : 3696
