How to access Wikipedia on Jan,18: Internet Blackout Day

You are not able to access English Wikipedia on 18th Jan, 2012 because Wikipedia is standing against SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Personal Information Protection Act) acts proposed by US Congress. Wikipedia is staging a public protest today to collect support for its opposition to the anti-piracy measures proposed in the United States Congress. Sue Gardner, the executive director of Wikimedia Foundation said, “Our concern extends beyond SOPA and PIPA: they are just part of the problem. We want the Internet to remain free and open, everywhere, for everyone.” The blackout will last 24 hours — from midnight to midnight EST (05:00 UTC Wed to 05:00 UTC Thu).

To use Wikipedia you need to view “CACHED” pages. Follow the simple steps below:

  1. Type your search query in Google followed by “wiki” (without quotes).
  2. Click on the arrow beside the link of Wikipedia and the preview of the article will come up.
  3. In the preview click on “CACHED”.

Now your Wikipedia page is up and running. More over English Wikipedia is still accessible to Mobile Devices and Smartphones.
